2nd annual pig and beer party: the food
apparently, roommate and i were too busy eating and drinking to take pictures of all the glorious food and drink that came through our door.
our menu included: pulled pork over cheddar bacon waffles, garlic rosemary pork tenderloin, barley salad w pomegranates, pickled collard greens w pineapple, bacon wrapped dates, chiorzo in a blanket, prosciutto and melon, assorted meats and cheeses, meyer lemon cake
some of what our dear friends brought: radicchio slaw, beer soaked sausages, ribs, jerky, arugula salad w pear, three cheese crostini topped w ham, spicy kale, fennel ricotta muffins, grapefruit yogurt loaf... and so much more. what else was there?
drinks: whiskey slushies, bloody marys, red and white wines, several growlers from bierkraft, too many bottled and canned beer to recount
thank you everyone for making our 2nd pig party even more fun than the first.

Post a Comment new to apt: sewing machine cover
my sewing machine finally got a cover. i used martha's tea towel cover idea as a guide. instead of using a tea towel, i dug through my fabrics and found this linen/cotton, dotted gem by kiyohara called canvas dots.

Post a Comment yarn, organized
after pulling out a 90% completed, two-tone gray, slouchy, cashmere hat (hopefully to be re-stitched, stay tuned), i decided to take on a more immediately rewarding task. i organized my yarns. i found angoras, mohairs, cottons, cotton-wool blends, aplacas, royal-alpacas, merinos... hand-spuns, hand-dyeds... lace, fingering, dk, sport, worsted, bulky and chunky weights... so much yarn. enough for several project. the most exciting part: i found over 6 skeins of cashmere: 2-, 4-, 5-, 6-ply, in grays, blues, orange and pink.
it's going to be a good, productive month.
anyone have any requests?

Post a Comment happy birthday uncle wray
a man and his dog, in a kayak / 1999
uncle wray turns 59 today. yay. sadly i could not join him and his beautiful wife up in maine to celebrate. but mom and i did send up a birthday treat.
during the summer of '99, the whole family went up to maine for our annual vacation. one day we took the family flotilla (a couple canoes, a few kayaks, small motor boat and a bathtub-sized sail boat) down river for a picnic. on this particular day, uncle wray was looking for a companion to kayak around with. no one was up to it. no one, that is, but jackson... a gorgeous weimaraner, weighing probably no less than 80 pounds.
the framed contact sheets above show the loading, launching and subsequent failure of uncle wray's kayaking adventure with jackson.
jackson passed away this year at 14 years old. he will be missed.
happy birthday uncle. love you.
