this past summer i took my very first machine knitting course. it was amazing. the classese were taught by the talented and patient kathryn malik and jordana martin at the textile arts center in brooklyn. the studio was beautiful and instruction even better.
originally i had thought this sweater would make a nice birthday gift for mom, but after blocking it a bit too agressively, the now slightly felted and quite shrunken cardigan didn't exactly fit right. it was a learning experience...

i loved molly's inside out bag too much to not make one for myself. used a linen trim rather than the suggested bias tape.

smaller set: 4.25" x 5" cards. booklet style, craft paper envelopes. cards and envelopes pressed with black indian ink.
larger set: 5" x 7" cards. baronial style envelopes. cards and envelopes have cut out initials. envelope cut outs reveal green envelope liner.
my brother joe turned 32 in april. a few days before his birthday, he requested a new set of stationery. touched by the request i went a bit overboard and made him two sets. hopefully these will hold him over for a while, but being the southern (letter-writing) gentleman he is, i might be making more soon.

post a comment shooting at home today. it's always a fight for the best light which means furniture is shoved aside. nothing to do, but shrug and laugh at the disarray.

post a comment fabric: nani iro's spring 2011 cotton line, saaa saa in grey and fuwari fuwari on white
details: mitered edge hem (my first time, and not so simple with double-gauze fabrics)
size: 11.5" square
last weekend the family gathered at my grandmother's house. in the week leading up, filled with anticipation, i put my energy into handkerchief-making. i made six hankies out of nani iro's fuwari fuwari for the ladies and nine of the grey saaa saa for the boys. we're all gathering again in a few weeks for my pop's 60th birthday. party favors are a must. i better start brainstorming now.
